What do we think? Tutor, Richard Janes has worked for over 20 years as a professional Sculptor, with work exhibited at the Tate Britain and a large portfolio of public sculptures sited across the UK and internationally. Why not tap into all that experience, and “take a chip of the old block”, as it were?

What do they say?

“Wood carving has a long tradition in sculpture. Used in tribal and religious art throughout history it was revisited by artists such as Barbara Hepworth and more recently David Nash. During this course, students will learn about wood carving tools, both ancient and modern, different types of wood for carving and will explore the varied techniques of carving and apply these to create their own wood carving.

This course is suitable for beginners as progress will be according to the individual. Woodcarving is a physical activity and students should consider this prior to enrolling.”
